At the Israel Patent Office's annual 2026 conference, recently held in Israel, a panel of examiners and patent attorneys discussed the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the patent registration process. Here is a brief overview of some of the positions presented by the examiners and speakers on the panel. Several interesting points were raised in the discussion that every applicant and practitioner in the field should know, and consider whether it is wise at this stage to use AI tools to draft patent applications at all, and what drawbacks examiners and professionals see that may be critical to obtaining a patent and to the scope of protection received.
